Lahore Qalandars earned their first point on the points table after their scheduled game against Peshawar Zalmi was canceled due to prolonged rain and a soggy pitch in Rawalpindi today, according to the latest developments in the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League.
As heavy rain fell in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, stadiums were quickly covered to protect the playing surface from the elements.
Despite initial attempts to resume play by removing the covers after the rain temporarily stopped, the ground crew worked feverishly to dry the field.
The match’s cut-off time was set at 4:47 p.m. local time, however the umpires eventually deemed it impossible to begin play before that time.
As a result of the cancellation, the Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi both received one point.
Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi are now third in the PSL points standings with seven points, while the defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, are at the bottom with just one point from seven games.
It’s worth noting that the teams encountered logistical issues when their departure from the hotel was first delayed.
In addition to the cancelled match against Q, another match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators is set for the Pindi Cricket Stadium, where the impact of heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad was also obvious yesterday.
