ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Ishaq Dar, who previously served as finance minister with his party in previous federal governments, is expected to take over the Foreign Ministry, according to The News, quoting News.
According to sources, Dar would take over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government. However, caretaker foreign minister Jalil Abbas Jilani will be named as the premier’s foreign affairs adviser, with Tariq Fatemi serving as special assistant.
According to sources, Dar was also present at a meeting on Thursday between Prime Minister Shehbaz and previous interim foreign minister and foreign secretary.
During the meeting, Jilani presented a detailed briefing to the premier on developments in various foreign issues, while the caretaker government was in charge of the Centre.
Dar will take on the role of foreign minister for the first time. As an experienced politician in the PML-N, he previously served as finance minister during his party’s government. His comeback to the coveted job came in September 2022, when he returned to Pakistan after five years of self-imposed exile.
Earlier this week, sources told The News that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had decided to nominate Dar as the country’s finance minister.
