Pakistan is scheduled to elect its 14th president on Saturday (today), with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman and former head of state Asif Ali Zardari expected to win the coveted position for the second time.
Zardari has the support of his party and seven other allies, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League-Zia (PML-Z), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), and National Party (NP).
In the presidential election, he would oppose Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) candidate Mehmood Khan Achakzai, who is supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
