Emma Navarro knocks out Aryna Sabalenka at Indian Wells.

The 23rd seed defeated Belarusian Sabalenka 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Sabalenka successfully defended her Australian Open title in January.

The California crowd erupted in support of Navarro as she advanced to her first 1000th quarterfinal.

Coco Gauff, a third-seeded American, defeated Elise Mertens of Belgium 6-0, 6-2.

The 2023 US Open winner, Gauff, who was playing on her 20th birthday, completed the opening set in 25 minutes.

After holding service and then breaking through, Mertens leveled the second set at 2-2, but Gauff took back control and claimed four straight games to advance to the round of eight.
