Selena Gomez isn’t proud of her former, unpleasant personality.
The 31-year-old singer recently confessed that she feels “sick” when she thinks about how she used to judge herself.
On a SXSW panel titled Mindfulness Over Perfection: Getting Real About Mental Health, Selena said that it “bums her out” how critical she was of her younger self, which eventually made her realize how vital it is to “speak to yourself with kindness.”
She also stated that her 2022 documentary My Mind and Me, which chronicled her self-love journey and battles with confidence and suicidal ideation, shifted her outlook.
“It makes me ill to hear what I was saying about myself at the beginning. It depresses me. But I believe everyone can connect to that emotion. “It’s important to speak to yourself with kindness, but I don’t think I really understood that [at the beginning of the film],” Selena explained.
The Disney star also talked about the ruthlessness of the entertainment world and how, as a young actor, she felt like an outcast.
