In its Future of Flight Action Plan, the Department for Transport (DfT) suggests that by 2030, flying taxis will be operated without pilots present.
By the end of the decade, it has also projected the widespread usage of drones for battling crime and critical 999 care deliveries.
According to the DfT, the “roadmap”—or, more accurately, the flight plan—would mean the adoption of technology “once confined to the realm of sci-fi,” with drone technology projected to increase the nation’s economy by £45 billion by 2030.
Anthony Browne, minister of aviation and technology, stated: “This plan will ensure that we have the infrastructure and regulations in place to make the revolutionary changes to transportation that cutting-edge battery technology will bring about.”
