ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Wing summoned Sher Afzal Marwat, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and recently elected member of the National Assembly, on Friday.
The politician was summoned on March 18 for an investigation into his tweet on March 9. The agency’s notification was issued in response to a complaint filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Barrister Aqeel Malik.
The PTI lawmaker made multiple posts on X, formerly Twitter, on March 9, and it is unclear which of his tweets was the subject of the complaint.
One of his tweets was concerning his accusations that he was slain by paid assassins on the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
“It is imperative to publicly acknowledge that ‘Maryam Nawaz Sharif’ poses a threat to my life, as she has orchestrated a ‘assassination attempt against me,’ which can take place at any time,” Marwat said in his post on the aforementioned day.
He added: “Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given these assassins $100,000 to carry out my murder.”
Meanwhile, in other tweets, the politician declared the party’s plans to stage a “historic protest” in Islamabad, inviting people to meet him at the Zero Point Interchange in the federal capital.
He reported about multiple convoys departing from several towns to join the gathering, which will proceed to the bridge near the Centaurus Mall.
