Martin Guptill’s cautious 32-ball 50 and Imad Wasim’s five-for helped Islamabad United win the Pakistan Super League for the third time by defeating Multan Sultans in Karachi on Monday.
ISLAMABAD UNITED’S INNINGS
Chasing a 160-run target, the United were a little jittery, but Hunain Shah hammered a boundary off Mohammad Ali in the penultimate delivery to assure the Shadab Khan-inspired squad won the trophy for the third time in the tournament’s history, following 2016 and 2018. The United triumphed by two wickets over the Sultans.
This was the Sultans’ third consecutive defeat in the PSL finals.
Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan combined to run out Guptill after he played wonderfully for his fifty. Guptill scored four boundaries and three majestic sixes throughout his innings.
Azam Khan had a great knock, scoring 30 off 22 deliveries, including four boundaries and one six.
Colin Munro and Naseem Shah both scored 17.
Other batters, including Agha Salman (10), Haider Ali (5), Shadab Khan (4), and Faheem Ashraf (1), were unable to resist with the bat.
Imad Wasim (19) and Hunain Shah (4) stayed unconquered, ensuring that the United defeated the Sultans in the tournament’s final match.
For the Sultans, Iftikhar Ahmed (2-19) and Khushdil Shah (2-21) each took two wickets.
