LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday approved a plan to distribute 20,000 electric motorcycles to schoolchildren in simple installments.
The Punjab Chief Minister authorized the proposal during her third cabinet meeting.
“E-bikes are essential to reduce pollution, but currently they are not suitable because of battery theft and low mileage,” she went on to say.
She stated that the government has agreed to supply fuel bikes as well as electric bikes on easy installment plans.
“To reduce the burden on students, the down payment will be reduced to Rs25,000, and the monthly installment will also be less than Rs5,000,” said Maryam, adding that bike distribution would begin in May 2024.
She also announced a separate program to provide motorcycles to outstanding performers.
The decision to provide bikes to students in affordable installments was made in response to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s desire to expand the number at a Punjab government meeting.
