The Oscar-winning actress, who played Queen Elizabeth II in the film The Crown, was particularly critical of the long-held belief that male actors attract a larger audience to theaters.
On news Christiane Amanpour program, Colman, 50, was questioned about whether or not women are given more credit in Hollywood.

“Don’t get me started on the pay disparity, but male actors get paid more because they used to say they draw in audiences, and actually, that hasn’t been true for decades,” the speaker stated, citing research indicating that women have always been major box office draws.

According to the yearly list published by US business magazine Forbes, Adam Sandler was the highest paid actor of 2023, taking home $73 million (£57 million) from his stand-up comedy tour and the Netflix feature Murder Mystery 2.

Friends actress Jennifer Aniston was the only other female in the top 10, coming in sixth with $42 million (£33 million).

Tom Cruise earned $45 million (£35 million) from the most recent Mission: Impossible movie, placing him third on the list. Ryan Gosling, who starred in Barbie, and Matt Damon, who starred in Oppenheimer, came in fourth with $43 million (£34 million).
