In Kallang, China let up a two-goal lead to be held 2-2 by Singapore.
Zhang declared his desire to retire on Thursday, calling the results of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round “unacceptable”.
That statement has since been taken back by the 34-year-old “after two days of serious contemplation”.
He declared,”retirement is not the only option” realizing this.
“Whether as a starter or a substitute, or even if I can’t play, as long as I can contribute to the national team; as long as the country still needs me, I will give my all and continue to play,” Zhang stated while speaking on Night show.
Zhang, the defenseman, has 105 caps for his country and plays football with Shanghai Port, a team in the Chinese Super League.
In qualifying group C, South Korea is atop, followed by Thailand in second place and China in third, separated only by goal differential. Singapore is at the bottom. The top two move on to the last qualifying round.
China will host Singapore in Tianjin on Tuesday in its attempt to advance to the 2026 World Cup.
