Given the way Michael Page fights in the UFC, the moniker “Venom” fits him perfectly.
Like a snake in an octagon, Page slithers around with technical accuracy and strikes quickly to confuse his opponent before most can respond. Sometimes the venom is too potent, and a knockdown ends the fight.
You could describe it as unconventional, careless, or even malpractice if you want, given that Page appeared to be dancing in front of his opponent while averting his gaze from them. Referred to as “MVP,” he has a 22-2 record in mixed martial arts and recently defeated Kevin Holland in the UFC for the first time ever.
Thus, despite being unorthodox, Page’s combat style is effective.
“I think I’m different because I’m not afraid to simply break the pattern. To perform stuff that people do in movies and video games and s—,” grinned Page in an interview with News in New York.
In spite of his 13 knockout victories in mixed martial arts, Page may not be well-known to UFC viewers until he faced veteran Holland in the octagon at the Kaseya Center in Miami, where he prevailed via unanimous decision. But like he is accustomed to after years of competing on the Bellator circuit, his fighting style generated a lot of discussion on social media.
Asking about his fighting style, which is rooted in freestyle kickboxing, Page grinned and responded emphatically.
Michael ‘Venom’ Page, a rising UFC star, discusses his unusual technique, which infuriates some in the fighting community.
