He would be the highest-ranking Hamas leader to be killed in Gaza since the current battle between Israel and Hamas began in October, if the intelligence is accurate.
Between March 9 and 10, fighter jets attacked an underground complex located in the center of Gaza.
It was thought that Aziz Abu Tamaa, another Hamas commander, was accompanying Issa.
The Israel Defense Forces declared that the first claims were verified.
“All of the intelligence has been verified,” stated Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.
“Marwan Issa was eliminated in the strike we carried out around two weeks ago.”
Issa, who went by the nickname “shadow man” because he could outwit Israeli authorities, was said to have been hidden underground.
He was believed to be one of the masterminds of the October 7, Israel, Hamas assaults. He was born in 1965.
There were almost 1,200 fatalities and hundreds of hostages.
Yahya Sinwar, the president of Hamas in Gaza, and Mohammed Deif, the leader of the organization’s military arm, are among the other people on Israel’s most-wanted list.
