ISLAMABAD After the Supreme Court recently granted bail to five of the accused connected to the incident on May 9, they were taken into custody again under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, or 16 MPO.

The offenders were apprehended shortly after the deputy commissioner of Rawalpindi issued the 16 MPO, which preceded their release. Last night, the suspects at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi were freed after presenting their surety bonds.

The five suspects, Owais, Saifullah, Nasrullah, Kamran, and Waqas, were taken into custody in connection with the New Tow Police Station’s May 9 violence case.

After Imran Khan was detained in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case, protests erupted across the nation, leading to the detention of several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members and others.

Five suspects who were detained in the May 9 violence case were granted bail last week by a three-judge panel made up of Justices Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Mussarat Hilali.

Judge Mandokhail noted during the hearing that the concerned authorities were pursuing people who disrupt political rallies rather than the “real terrorists” for arrest.
