During her acceptance of the iHeartRadio icon award on Monday night, Cher talked candidly about the challenges she has experienced throughout her career.
Cher was given the trophy by actress Meryl Streep after the 77-year-old sang “Believe” on stage. Jennifer Hudson was with her during the performance.
As Cher accepted the prize, she stated, “I want to tell you something because I don’t usually talk about it, but I have been down and out so many times that you can’t believe it—dropped from record companies and couldn’t get a job.” “I had a big show when I traveled to Las Vegas at the time, which they named the Elephant’s Graveyard.
Cher remembers being “down and out,” unable to find employment, while receiving an icon music award from iHeartRadio.
