As the assistance organization attempts to rebuild trust following claims that some of its employees were involved in the October 7 attack against Israel, Japan said on Tuesday that it will remove its funding suspension for the UN Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA).

Following Israel’s January accusation, Japan—the sixth-largest donor to the organization—along with fifteen other nations suspended over $450 million in financing, causing significant disruptions to the agency’s operations in the Gaza Strip.

Since then, nations like Australia and Canada have resumed supporting UNRWA, the biggest humanitarian organization in Gaza under Israeli siege.

Yoko Kamikawa, the foreign minister of Japan, called the agency’s involvement in resolving the Gaza conflict “indispensable” even as itworks to improve governance and manage risks.
