In the city’s Gayrettepe neighborhood, the fire started during renovations at the Masquerade nightclub, which is located on the ground floor and basement of a 16-story residential building.
Istanbul’s mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, expressed his wishes for a rapid recovery to those injured and prayed for God’s mercy on our people who lost their lives.
He claimed that authorities were conducting a thorough assessment of the building’s safety.
According to its website, Masquerade can accommodate 4,000 people. It was closed for the holy Muslim month of Ramadan. The owners were attempting to finish the renovations in time for the Eid festival, which falls after the month-long fast, next week.
