The International Olympic Committee dethroned the IBA in June 2023, and the IBA appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Cas claimed that the IBA had not changed its culture, financial transparency, or the honesty of its officials sufficiently.
“As a consequence, these three elements justified the IOC’s decision,” it stated.
The decision was suggested by the IOC’s executive board because the IBA was suspended in 2019 because of suspected corruption and governance difficulties, and it was unable to implement the reforms that were set forth.
IOC members cast 69 of the 70 valid votes in favor of the recommendation.
The Russian-led IBA compared the move to Germany’s conduct during World War II and accused the IOC of committing a “tremendous error” in response to the decision last year.
