Renowned burglar James “Jimmy” Sheen has acknowledged that he stole a solid gold toilet worth £4.8 million from Blenheim Palace, the former Oxfordshire residence of Sir Winston Churchill, two days after it was installed.
According to The Sun, the 39-year-old burglar admitted guilt on Tuesday to the charges of burglary, conspiracy to transfer criminal property, and transferring criminal goods during the heist.
Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan created the toilet, which was lent to the castle in 2019 after making an earlier appearance at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
There was a time Donald Trump was presented the fully operational 18-carat gold toilet. It was available for visitors to use for three minutes at a time, but following a smash-and-grab raid, it vanished.
Sheen spent 17 years in prison earlier for a string of lockdowns in the United Kingdom.
The career criminal terrorized the nation while amassing £903,000 in illicit riches.
In February of the following year, three more guys are scheduled to go on trial in connection with the toilet heist.
Judge Michael Gledhill KC postponed Sheen’s sentencing until after the other defendants’ trials.
The Oxfordshire country estate Blenheim Palace is situated close to Woodstock.
Constructed from 1705 to 1722, the palace stands as one of the biggest residences in England and was named a United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (Unesco) World Heritage Site in 1987.
