Climate change: decreasing logging following shifts in Colombia and Brazil.

A recent analysis reveals that political action resulted in a huge decrease in the number of trees felled in tropical forests in Brazil and Colombia last year.

According to researchers, the environment is now the top priority for new leaders, as seen by a dramatic 39% decrease in the number of trees lost in Brazil’s Amazon.

Nevertheless, much of these benefits were lost due to a rise in tree felling and fires in Bolivia, Laos, and Nicaragua.

The main cause of the 25% increase in global losses was the forest fires in Canada.
Intense, protracted wildfires that ravaged Canada in 2023 caused five times more tree losses than the year before.

According to experts from the University of Maryland’s GLAD lab and the World Resources Institute (WRI), which publishes annual statistics on forest fall, fires in northern forest areas have a significant impact on the overall global picture of tree cover reduction.

However, the most significant response to climate change, in the opinion of these researchers, is the deliberate removal of mature rainforests in tropical countries.
