LAHORE: Former Pakistani team head coach Misbah-ul-Haq shared his thoughts on the leadership change, stating that the previous and current methods of doing so were incorrect.
Misbah’s remarks follow the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to reinstate Babar Azam as the white-ball captain in favor of Shaheen Shah Afridi.
The choice was taken prior to the start of the Green Shirts’ five-match Twenty20 International Series against New Zealand on April 18.
In a statement, the board stated that the decision to switch captains was a “strategic move” meant to ensure player health and optimal performance, and that it demonstrated PCB’s determination to protect players’ careers, particularly those of the fast bowlers.
Misbah bemoaned to Lahore media that the players are impacted by the “unpleasant” procedure of switching the captain of the national team.
“All of our guys are elite. “We wish the team continued success and think Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah are stars,” the 49-year-old remarked.
In addition, he offered his opinion on the hiring of coaches, stating that the cricket board ought to examine the team’s needs before selecting a coach, regardless of their nationality.
