The Italian won the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakesh, Morocco, with ease, defeating his Spanish opponent 7-5, 6-2.
With two breakaways in every set, Berrettini broke Baena’s nine-match winning run at the tournament, winning in one hour and forty-six minutes.
Since winning at Queen’s Club in June 2022, this was Berrettini’s first championship.
After missing six months due to an ankle injury, he had only participated in three tournaments.
Throughout the event, the 27-year-old dropped just two sets.
In other news, Hubert Hurkacz defeated Pedro Martinez 6-3, 6-4, to win his first ATP championship of the year at the Estoril Open in Portugal.
The victory is the world number ten’s eighth career ATP title and his first on clay.
