ISLAMABAD: Bushra Bibi, the wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, filed a request to be transferred from Bani Gala to Adiala jail, where she is currently being held after being found guilty in the Toshakhana case. However, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) refused the appeal on Tuesday. The mansion had been designated a sub-jail by the authorities.
“Why didn’t Bushra’s attorney show up for the hearing? During the former first lady’s petition hearing, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb stated, “She would have been transferred to the Adiala [jail] as per her wish if he [her lawyer] had won the case.”
Bushra had requested in February that the court transfer her to the Adiala facility, where her husband is also incarcerated, on the grounds of protection and safety. She stated that “she was ready and willing to spend her term in the ordinary jail premises at Adiala jail, rather than the declared sub-jail at her residence”.
“While the petitioner is in good health currently, however, there has been a movement of unidentified people in the house declared sub-jail by the government, thereby, contributing to the sense of insecurity,” the plea stated.
Judge Aurangzeb bemoaned the former first lady’s attorney’s non-attendance and non-compliance throughout today’s hearing and questioned whether the applicants genuinely desired the relief they had first requested.
