As the former leader of the Brexit Party was wrapping up his address, local officials arrived. Two Conservative MPs and Hungary’s pro-Putin leader, Viktor Orban, are also scheduled to speak at the event.
The Saint-Josse-ten-Noode district mayor of Brussels, Emir Kir, announced that he had issued an injunction prohibiting the conference from happening on Tuesday in order “to guarantee public safety.”.
He continued: “In Etterbeek, in Brussels City and in Saint-Josse, the far-right is not welcome.”
Along with Conservative MP Miriam Cates, Tory MP Suella Braverman—who was fired from her position as home secretary last year—was scheduled to appear on Tuesday.
“There is no public disturbance and no grounds to shut down a gathering of politicians, intellectuals, journalists, students, civic leaders, and concerned citizens,” the conference organizers stated in a statement announcing they were filing a lawsuit against Mr. Kir’s order.
