The UK prime minister announced his intention to gradually raise defense expenditure by the end of the decade, starting with 2.4% annually until 2027–2028 and reaching 2.5% by 2030–2031 while speaking with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Funding will increase to £78.2 billion in 2028 from £64.6 billion in 2024, and then to £87 billion in 2030–2031.
According to the government, the UK will continue to be “by far the second largest defense spender in NATO after the US” as a result of the promise, which amounts to an additional £75 billion in financing over the following six years.

However, in light of Mr. Sunak’s performance in government on defense, he charged that Mr. Sunak “belatedly seeing the defence of our country as important”.
