ISLAMABAD: As the suo motu hearing on claims of spy agencies interfering in judicial matters continued on Tuesday, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa declared that “others” will grow powerful till Parliament gains strength.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) justices’ letter accusing agencies of interfering in judicial proceedings was the subject of a suo motu case that was taken up by a six-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa.
Justices Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Athar Minallah, Musarrat Hilali, and Naeem Akhtar Afghan make up the bench.
Six IHC judges had urged on March 25 that CJP Isa call a judicial convention to discuss the issue of purported meddling by intelligence agents in judicial activities or “intimidation” of judges in a way that jeopardizes the judiciary’s independence.
The Chief Justice, who also serves as the chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), received a letter from the six IHC judges: Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, Justice Tariq Mahmood Jehangiri, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, and Justice Saman Rifat Imtiaz.
