The News said on Thursday that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has ruled out taking the mandate of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rahman, stating that the latter was actually defeated in the polls held on February 8.
“Nobody has stolen his mandate as I defeated him in the elections,” Gandapur declared in a statement to the media during a Labor Day celebration. Those Maulana sahib had previously trusted and made arrangements with had instead betrayed him.”
The comments made by the chief minister of KP coincide with discussions between the two parties, who have historically been bitter political enemies, over their shared concerns about the general election’s transparency.
Fazl claimed that independent candidates supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had gained the majority.
