Hilary Schan, a Worthing councillor as well, announced that she will now support the journalist Owen Jones-led We Deserve Better campaign, which seeks to remove well-known Labour MPs from office and replace them with independent and Green Party candidates.
The declaration follows a very successful local election campaign for Labour, during which it lost traditional council seats due to its stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict, particularly in areas with high Muslim populations.
Adding that it would be “crucial to pressure Starmer to finally listen to progressive voters he has taken for granted” if more “socialist representatives” were elected to parliament, Ms. Schan added, citing analysis that indicates Labour will be the largest party at the next election but not hold an overwhelming majority.
