Along with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, Peter Jackson, the visionary behind the epic Oscar-winning movies released in 2001, 2002, and 2006, will produce the movies.
The first of the new films, Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, will be directed by Andy Serkis, who previously portrayed the character in the original trilogy based on JRR Tolkien’s fantasy novels set in the Middle Earth.
Using Gollum’s signature line, Serkis made a declaration that is sure to thrill fans: “Yesssss, Precious.”
“It’s time to go out into the unknown again with my best friends, the incredible and incomparable guardians,” he continued.
David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, stated that the producing team “will be involved every step of the way” in the new endeavor.
In 2023, Warner Bros. first revealed that it was developing several new movies that would take place in the Lord of the Rings universe.
