According to the party’s secretary general Omar Ayub Khan on Thursday, imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has given former president Dr. Arif Alvi a “important responsibility.” Dr. Alvi had been working to close the divide between the establishment and the former ruling party.
The development occurred one day after the founding chairman of the PTI rejected the military’s demand that he apologize for the events of May 9 and disassociated his organization from the violent protests that erupted across the nation shortly after his arrest.
Speaking during a press conference outside the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi with Alvi at his side, Ayub stated: “During his first meeting with Khan after leaving the Presidency, the PTI founder has assigned important responsibility to Arif Alvi.”
“The PTI founder is ready to render [more] sacrifices [for the country],” stated the former president.
“I have received instructions from the PTI founder,” the PTI leader declared, without specifying the nature of the “importance responsibility.”
Alvi continued, “Some PTI members might have been involved [in the May 9 violence], but the entire party was crashed,” in reference to the police raid on the PTI leadership against the backdrop of the mayhem.
