Punjab’s new governor, Sardar Saleem Haider, took the oath of office on Friday at a ceremony conducted at the Governor’s House.

The newly appointed governor was sworn in by Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Prior to this, Sardar Saleem’s May 5 inauguration as governor of Punjab was rescheduled for May 7 “due to inevitable reasons.”

Among the dignitaries present at the swearing-in ceremony were Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

The appointments of Saleem Haider, Faisal Karim Kundi, and Jaffar Khan Mandokhail as governors of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, respectively, were confirmed by President Asif Ali Zardari last week.

In compliance with Article 101 (1) of the Constitution, the President of the State gave his consent based on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s advice, according to a statement released from the President’s Office.

The appointment took place the day after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari nominated Saleem Haider, a party supporter, for the crucial Punjab post after giving it some thought.
