Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), told reporters on Monday that he had “no problem with MNA Sher Afzal Marwat if he follows the party line” after removing the firebrand lawmaker from the party’s highest decision-making body.
Marwat, who has gained notoriety for his direct and outspoken statements, found himself in serious water when he asserted that Saudi Arabia had a hand in the 2022 overthrow of the Khan-led government.
In addition to distancing itself from Marwat’s remarks on Riyadh, the top leadership of the former ruling party also gave the embattled senior leader of the PTI a show-cause notice.
He had three days to reply to the notification and provide justification for why disciplinary action wasn’t necessary.
Notice had been served to Marwat by his party previously. PTI had given Marwat a show-cause notice in February in response to his comments about the party’s acting chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. Gohar was “removed as the party chairman over his unsatisfactory performance,” according to Marwat during a TV broadcast.
Marwat has been in the news for the past few months due to remarks he made that have seriously rattled the leadership. Marwat joined the National Assembly after winning NA seat -41 in the general election held in February.
This comes after PTI leader Omar Ayub declared that Imran Khan, the party’s founder, had ordered Marwat to be removed from both the core and political committees of the organization.
