On the opening night of the league season, Tuesday night, in front of a record-breaking sell-out crowd, Caitlin Clark’s WNBA debut was marred by a double-digit loss to the Connecticut Sun.
DiJonai Carrington of the Sun guarded Clark well, and he finished the first quarter scoreless. In the second half, Clark committed five turnovers, no rebounds, and one assist while shooting 2 of 7 from the floor, including 1 of 4 from beyond the arc.
With Indiana having a short turnaround to face the New York Liberty on Thursday night, “We don’t have a lot of practice time for our next one,” Sides remarked.
“We’ll be in the gym tomorrow watching a lot of video, trying to figure out how not to turn the ball over 25 times for 29 points.”
Early on, Clark was clearly having trouble, but in the second half, she was able to get better and ended with a team-high 20 points.
