As the UK’s poverty rate rises, soap, shampoo, and toothpaste are regarded as “luxury items,” according to Gordon Brown.

Gordon Brown has stated that children in the UK are experiencing "the highest levels of poverty in living memory" and that basic hygiene products like toothpaste, shampoo, and soap are now regarded as "luxury items".

The former prime minister expressed his dismay and disgust at the current levels of poverty in Britain, saying that they had not been seen in “many, many years,” in an interview with Sophy Ridge on Politics Hub.
The predicament of kids born within the previous 15 years, whom Mr. Brown referred to as “austerity’s children,” was brought up. These individuals “are growing up poor, who probably have never known what it is to be anything other than poor.”

After housing costs, 4.3 million children—or 30% of all children—are officially considered to be impoverished, corresponding to thirty percent of all children in the United Kingdom, as per data released in March by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
