ISLAMABAD According to sources cited by Geo News on Friday, the federal government has begun talks regarding its proposal to create a social media regulatory body.
The sources state that media outlets and interested parties have been invited by the cabinet’s special committee to provide input on the proposed PECA Amendment Bill 2024 and the creation of the authority.
At the most recent federal cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif established a committee to conduct consultations on the subject.
According to the sources, the regulatory body will counsel the government on issues relating to digital rights, responsible internet use, and guaranteeing regulatory compliance.
