“Sliced bread is the standard of all innovation, past, present, and future,” stated Ed Douglas, a businessman, local historian, and county commissioner from Chillicothe, Missouri.

In July 1928, the Chillicothe Baking Co. produced the world’s first loaves of bread, which were cut and packaged immediately out of the oven thanks to Rohwedder’s innovative process.
It was a year of rapid developments in the food business, with Fleer Co. inventing bubble gum only a month later.
