It comes after the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) released an update in March on its study of the UK’s £5 billion veterinary services market, which found that pet owners may be overpaying for medicines or prescriptions.
The watchdog announced on Thursday that it was conducting a complete market inquiry into the UK’s veterinary sector.
It urged animal owners to:
- Look around for a vet; don’t always go to the closest one.
- Ask the veterinarian if there are any therapeutic options.
If it is not an emergency, consider purchasing medication from a source other than your veterinarian.
