KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday provided a rain forecast for today, May 28, through June, as the nation struggles with an ongoing severe heatwave.
A representative for the NDMA said that rain, wind, and thunder are predicted for the upper regions, and that landslides could disrupt upland areas’ roads and traffic patterns.
The spokeswoman stated, “There is a risk of flooding in local rivers and canals due to rain in the upper areas,” and added that local departments are prepared to handle landslides and floods as they are predicted.
The spokeswoman continued, “The district administration has been instructed to relocate residents of slums to safer areas.”
“There is fear of damage to crops, electricity poles and other structures due to wind,” he stated.
The NDMA reports that from tonight until June 1, isolated rainfall will be seen in several Punjabi cities, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, TT Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali.
Along with Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and Kurram, Rian is also predicted to drench cities throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
