Miguel Angel Lopez, a cyclist from Colombia, has been banned from doping for four years.
The 30-year-old was found in violation of the rules of “use and possession of a prohibited substance” before to the 2022 Giro d’Italia, according to the International Cycling Union (UCI), which oversees the sport.
According to the UCI, he took Menotropin, a hormone that is prohibited.
Lopez was placed on temporary suspension on July 25, 2023, and the suspension will last until July 24, 2027.
When it was claimed that the Colombian had connections to a Spanish doctor who was being investigated as a member of a doping ring, the Astana team fired the player in December 2022.
The UCI noted that their probe into Lopez included information from the national doping agency and Spanish police.
In 2018, Lopez placed third in the Vuelta a Espana and the Giro d’Italia. Additionally, he won a stage of the Tour de France in 2020.
Rider Lopez receives a four-year penalty for doping.
