Khawaja Saad Rafique, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stated on Tuesday that it was unacceptable that the NAB (Amendment) Ordinance had been approved into law, extending the duration of a suspect’s physical remand from 14 days to 40 days.
He reminded everyone that the National Accountability Bureau Ordinance was created by a tyrant, saying, “This draconian law cannot be supported, therefore the ordinance should be withdrawn.”
He claimed that the ordinance was used for despicable political ends and that it caused a great deal of harm to innocent individuals.
The time frame for remanding accused parties in NAB proceedings has been extended from 14 to 40 days, as per an amendment to the NAB Ordinance.
On Monday, Yusuf Raza Gilani, the acting president, signed the Elections Ordinance and the NAB (Amendment) Ordinance 2024.
On Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recommendation, he signed the ordinances because President Asif Zardari was in Dubai at the time.
The modifications to the ordinances were approved by the federal cabinet before being promulgated. The length of a sentence for an officer found guilty of fabricating a case out of malice has been lowered from five years to two years under the revised NAB law.
In addition to the current jurists, the Elections Act (Amendment) Ordinance 2024 will include retired judges as members of the election tribunals.
