The previous 24 hours have seen a number of deaths in northern and central India from heat-related illnesses as temperatures continue to surge.
According to officials who spoke with the Reuters news agency on Thursday, ten deaths were reported at the government hospital in the Rourkela region of Odisha.
Along with the nation’s capital, Delhi, deaths from heat stroke have also been reported from the states of Bihar, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand.

Mahendra Kumar, the district magistrate of Bhojpur district in Bihar, notified the newspaper that three poll workers and one police officer had died in the city on Thursday due to heat stroke.
Even though there were medical facilities at every center, they collapsed on the warmest day. One house guard [volunteer policeman] passed away where he was residing, Mr. Kumar added. The man passed away in the hospital while receiving medical attention.

He added that on Thursday, between thirty to forty patients had been admitted to the same hospital with heat-related illnesses.
