In her keynote speech at the Oxford Pakistan Programme (OPP) fundraising event, the youngest Nobel laureate, Malala Yousafzai, unveiled a new scholarship project to benefit Palestinian students at the University of Oxford.
Malala emphasized how the Graduate Scholarship for Palestinian Students seeks to remove the financial obstacles that keep Palestinian students from taking advantage of Oxford’s prestigious educational prospects as part of the Refugee Academic Futures Program at Oxford.
She emphasized in her speech the terrible toll that the current Gaza conflict has taken on educational prospects. “More than 80% of Gaza’s schools and all universities have been damaged or destroyed,” she said.
She emphasized that, among the many significant messages we can send out to show our support for Palestinian youth, this scholarship is just one of many.
Rebuilding Gaza’s educational system will take years of investments in learning opportunities following a long-term peace. However, at this time, we must all make every effort to assist as many students as we can by telling their stories, endorsing their calls to action, and providing them with direct financial help.
Malala emphasized, “This initiative aims to center and support young Palestinians whose voices will continue to resonate across the globe.” By working together, we are doing more than just providing funds for a scholarship—we are also demonstrating our strong support for the Palestinian people.
