While opposition groups claim that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi stays in office, Indians will lose many of their liberties, the prime minister is aiming to secure a third consecutive term.
What is the Party of India?
The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (India), a confederation of opposition groups that formerly included the powerful Congress party, poses the biggest threat in 2024.
Prominent politicians in this group include Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, whose father was former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Despite being a strong opposition figure, their mother, Sonia Gandhi, is not anticipated to run for office.
The coalition includes the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of Delhi as well as a number of significant regional parties.
Recently, three AAP leaders were taken into custody on charges of corruption. The BJP disputes the accusations made by the party that Mr. Modi and the party are carrying out a political vengeance against it.
There are around twenty parties in all that make up the alliance.
The NDA: What is it?
The BJP is the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), a coalition of political parties with a center-right slant.
