The Punjab government has made the decision to build specific barracks throughout the province’s jails where the leaders of the beggar mafia will be imprisoned in order to combat the threat of professional begging.

The Punjab Home Department declared that leaders of the begging mafia would henceforth have official barracks in all of the province’s jails.

This program is a major step in the province’s campaign against organized begging and is carried out per Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directives.

A spokeswoman on Sunday stated that the first phase’s barracks can hold 100–200 people respectively.

These specialized barracks will be expanded as needed, especially in larger cities where the problem is more widespread.
