Judicial Magistrate Ehtesham Alam approves acquittal against petitions filed by PTI founder and Qureshi

ISLAMABAD: In two instances involving the long march vandalism, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and party leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi were found not guilty by a district and sessions court in the federal capital on Monday.

Acquittal against Khan and Qureshi’s pleas was approved by Judicial Magistrate Ehtesham Alam.

PTI politicians Murad Saeed and Ali Mohammad Khan were cleared in both cases, and Asad Umar, the party’s previous leader, also received relief.

Ali and Umar both showed up in court and signed an attendance sheet. The Golra Police Station received the cases that were brought against them.

This comes two weeks after the founder of the PTI and other party leaders were declared not guilty in comparable cases filed in the police stations of Kohsar and Karachi Company for violating 144 secation.

Zartaj Gul, Ali Nawaz Awan, Faisal Javed, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Qasim Suri, Raja Khurram Nawaz, Shireen Mazari, Saifullah Niazi, Asad Umar, and Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, the head of the Awami Muslim League, were among the other party officials who were found not guilty on May 20.

In two instances pertaining to the May 9 riots, Khan was also found not guilty on May 30 by an Islamabad district and sessions court.

The district and sessions court’s decision stated, “The PTI founder has been acquitted because of insufficient evidence presented by the prosecution.”

The PTI founder was the subject of lawsuits for violating Article 144 and leading a protracted march.
