During the first TV election debate, Mr. Sunak kept saying that Labour’s plans for the country were not costed and that, due to a £38.5 billion black hole over four years, they would require tax increases of £2,000 per family year. He said that the figure for the black hole was determined by impartial government professionals.
During the Tuesday TV debate, Sir Keir referred to the claim as “absolute garbage,” but two members of his shadow cabinet went on to accuse the prime minister of lying on Wednesday.
Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves stated: “Keir Starmer made it quite evident last night that the prime minister’s remarks were complete nonsense.
“I would go above and beyond that. During yesterday night’s debate on Labour’s tax policies, the prime minister made false statements.
“Labor will not raise working people’s taxes. I make that extremely apparent. And every item in our manifesto will have a complete cost and funding breakdown.”
During the argument, she accused Mr. Sunak of lying twelve times regarding Labour’s tax proposals.
Additionally, Jonathan Ashworth, the shadow minister, stated earlier on News’ Breakfast with Kay Burley that “this is a desperate lie.”
