Japan Zoo Incident Delays Opening After Shocking Employee Confession A well-known zoo in Japan has delayed its seasonal opening after a disturbing case involving one of its staff members. Asahiyama Zoo, located in northern Japan, was preparing to reopen for visitors during the busy Golden Week. However, officials have now postponed the reopening as a police investigation continues. Employee Confession Triggers Investigation Local reports state that a zoo employee told police he had disposed of his wife's body in the facility’s incinerator. Authorities quickly responded and searched the zoo premises last week. The incinerator, usually used to handle dead animals, became a key part of the investigation. Police had already been looking for the employee’s wife after a friend reported her missing. This confession raised serious concerns and led to a full-scale inquiry. Zoo Closure Extended Amid Ongoing Probe The zoo had been closed since early April for routine maintenance ahead of the summer season. It was set to reopen this week, but officials have now pushed the opening date to Friday. They also warned that further delays are possible depending on how the investigation unfolds. City authorities apologized to visitors and asked for patience during this time. Mayor Calls Situation an “Unprecedented Crisis” Asahikawa Mayor Hirosuke Imazu addressed the situation in a press conference. He described it as an unexpected and serious crisis. He said the city is dealing with deep concern and uncertainty. Despite the situation, he added that efforts are ongoing to prepare the zoo for reopening once it is safe to do so. Popular Zoo Known for Unique Animal Displays Opened in 1967, Asahiyama Zoo attracts over one million visitors each year. It is famous for its creative enclosures, including glass domes and overhead tunnels. These designs allow visitors to see animals from close range in a more natural setting. The incident has shocked the local community and raised questions about safety and staff screening at public facilities.

From Scientist to Silk Farmer: A New Chapter in India’s Sericulture Industry A Bold Career Shift Dr. Jolapuram Umamaheswari made a life-changing decision six years ago. She left her career as a scientist in Singapore and returned to India. At that time, she had no job. Still, she was clear about one thing, she wanted independence and control over her work. Instead of looking for another research role, she explored different options. After careful study, she chose silk farming, also known as sericulture. This field combines biology, agriculture, and business. For her, it felt like a natural extension of her scientific background. Turning Science into Practice Sericulture involves raising silkworms on mulberry leaves. Farmers then collect the cocoons and extract silk fibers. Although the process sounds simple, it requires precision and care. In the beginning, Umamaheswari faced several problems. Diseases affected the silkworms. Yields were inconsistent. Managing a living system also required constant attention. These early challenges tested her patience. However, she used her scientific knowledge to improve her methods. She focused on better hygiene. She refined feeding practices. She also controlled the environment more carefully. Over time, these small changes made a big difference. Consistent Growth and Stable Income Today, her hard work has paid off. She produces around 10 batches of silk each year. Each cycle takes about 25 to 30 days. This allows her to maintain a steady production flow. She now earns nearly $1,000 per month. The income feels stable, almost like a regular salary. This is one of the biggest advantages of sericulture. Unlike many farming activities, it does not depend only on seasons. Umamaheswari believes silk farming offers reliable returns when managed properly. Her journey shows how science can support agriculture in practical ways. It also highlights new opportunities in India’s growing silk industry.

Afghanistan Women Football Team Returns to International Stage After FIFA Decision FIFA Approves Return Under Special Rules FIFA has approved a new rule that allows Afghanistan women footballers to return to international competition under special circumstances. The decision enables players to represent their country even when their national federation cannot officially support a team. This change follows years of restrictions after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021. Women were banned from sports, and many footballers left the country to seek safety abroad. Players Forced Into Exile After 2021 Afghanistan women last played an official match in 2018. After 2021, women faced strict limits on sport and public participation. Many national team players relocated to countries such as Australia, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. More than 80 Afghan women footballers now live outside Afghanistan. Some were under contract before the political change, while others joined later as refugees. Formation of Afghan Women United FIFA supported a refugee team called Afghan Women United in 2025 as part of a pilot program. This team gave displaced players a platform to compete and stay active in international football. The team has already played friendly matches. It recorded its first win against Libya during the FIFA United Women Series in 2025. New Pathway for International Matches The updated FIFA rule allows a national or representative team to compete even when the member federation cannot officially register it. This ensures players are not blocked from football due to political or external conditions. Afghanistan will not take part in the 2027 Women's World Cup. However, the team may join qualification matches for the 2028 Olympics. Their return to international fixtures is expected in June. Leadership and Player Response Former captain Khalida Popal welcomed the decision and said the team represents strength and hope for Afghan women. She highlighted that players inside Afghanistan still face major restrictions. She said the team will continue to speak for those who cannot leave the country and will support young players in exile communities. Training and Preparation Plans FIFA has organized regional selection camps in England and Australia. A training camp in New Zealand is also planned for June. These camps will help prepare the squad for upcoming international matches.

PTI boycotted the votes after PML-N senior leader and Prime Minister’s advisor Rana Sanaullah said on Tuesday that a number of PTI members intended to vote for him in the Punjab Assembly Senate by-election.

In an interview with the media, Rana Sanaullah claimed that ten to twelve PTI members had surreptitiously gotten in touch with him to express their desire to support him.

While expressing gratitude, he urged them to vote in accordance with their party’s platform.

He emphasized that the PTI’s choice to not run for office is indicative of the party’s customary strategy and political culture, characterizing it as combative and intolerant and stemming from the leadership of the party’s founder, Imran Khan.
