When asked repeatedly if, should his party win the election, Labour hike property taxes like capital gains tax, council tax, and stamp duty, Shadow Defence Secretary John Healy said that he would not rule it out.
Labour has announced plans to charge private school fees, impose a windfall tax on energy companies, and require non-domestic taxpayers to pay taxes on their foreign income.

However, in response to a question about whether Labour will impose additional taxes on the News’ Breakfast with Kay Burley show, he stated: “None of our proposals need us to look at further tax, but we of course have to see what the truth is.

When asked if Labour would not consider raising the property tax, Mr. Healy responded, “Look, there are dozens and dozens of specific taxes.”

“The ones that are most important are those that cost working people the most, those that are facing the highest tax burden now for 70 years.”

Burley reiterated that “plans do not require” considering any tax increases after it was brought up that plans can change.

“We will not raise the taxes that are most important to working people,” he stated.

Then, Mr. Healy declined to “go through the list” of certain taxes.

Mr. Healey’s interview “shows once again that Labour won’t rule out a swathe of taxes on families,” said Laura Trott, chief secretary to the Treasury.
