Despite substantial and ongoing criticism of its introduction, clubs in England’s top division voted 19-1 in favor of VAR.
It is believed that Wolves, the team that called the vote, was the only one to support its elimination.
The Premier League held its annual general meeting on Thursday in Harrogate, when a vote was taken.
Even though they expected to lose badly, Wolves wanted the vote to happen.
Throughout the past season, the West Midlands club has been the target of several dubious VAR judgments.
However, the Premier League, its teams, and Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the organization that oversees referees, admitted that changes were required in light of the decision.
The Premier League is hopeful that a number of adjustments for the 2024–2025 season will enhance VAR usage.
This includes the implementation of semi-automated offside technology and in-stadium statements in cases where VAR intervenes and changes an on-field judgment.
Additionally, they want to enhance the fan experience in-stadium by providing, when feasible, big screen replays of VAR interventions.
In addition, they are collaborating with PGMOL to provide authorities with “more robust” training and to ensure “expanded communications”.
The league announced that it will keep pushing the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which establishes the rules of the game, to approve live audio and video broadcasting for the review.
