ISLAMABAD: Although the courts are providing respite to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, the government is still planning ways to keep the former prime minister incarcerated indefinitely.

PTI leaders and supporters began to believe that Imran would be released from prison in a few weeks as case after case against him collapsed. Nonetheless, government sources hold a different opinion.

The NAB is waiting for the proper moment to submit the Toshakhana reference-II against Imran and Bushra Bibi, while the FIA is considering filing a new case against the PTI founder and other individuals as a result of Imran’s controversial tweet over the 1971 incident.

Sources claim that the NAB’s action would guarantee the couple’s incarceration even in the event that they are found not guilty in the iddat case as well.

Imran was found guilty in four separate court instances. He and his co-accused have been either acquitted or had their sentences suspended in three cases. There is currently only one instance in which Imran’s conviction and sentence continue to be a significant barrier to his release from custody.

According to well-informed sources, the NAB has finished its investigation into the Toshakhana case-II and is prepared to file a referral in the accountability court against Bushra and the founder of the PTI. The reference will be sent on schedule, according to a source.
